Scar Removal

Scars are unsightly indentations on the surface of the skin that occur once active acne subsides. Scars make the texture of the skin rugged, unsmooth, and cause immense psychological discomfort on the person having them.
Scars are caused when the wound-healing process is hindered by certain factors such as too much or too little collagen. Luckily, currently new surgical procedures, skin resurfacing technologies and laser technologies are available to successfully erase facial scars thereby improving the quality of the skin. Treatments used for minimizing the appearance of scars include chemical peels, microdermabrasion and dermal fillers and laser skin resurfacing,
During the laser scar removal procedure- the laser light is glided along the scar, which vaporizes or removes a layer of skin to reveal a more new and smooth skin. There is some redness and swelling experienced on the skin, which heals within a few days, and the results are minimized scar appearance. Other kinds of lasers go deeper into the skin down to the dermis and target lower layers of the skin to stimulate new collagen production and correct the scars.
This scar removal procedure carries minimal risk and about 80 % of success results. It is performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient surgical environment. The treatment can last from a few minutes to an hour and a half.
Following the laser scar removal treatment, it is important to take good after care. You are advised to wash the treated area with a mild soap, pat it dry and apply an antibiotic ointment and a non-stick bandage. You may be prescribed an antibiotic to prevent further infection.
New skin would start reappearing as early as four days after laser treatment . However, individual factors such as your skin type and abidance by the doctor’s instructions will play a role in determining the length of your recovery.
